Back in the day, if you needed a specific picture for your project, you would probably grab a suitable stock image or snap your own photos.
Times have changed. AI can now give you a quality photo of a model who doesn’t even exist—and at no fee. The technology comes from Konstantin Zhabinskiy and team, who have produced an AI-generated collection of photos called ‘Generated Photos’.
The project comprises 100,000 faces produced from scratch using AI to hopefully feed the need for on-demand media and “infinite diversity.”
The creators assure that the AI wasn’t trained using photos grabbed from the internet or from stock libraries. Rather, they took the time—“thousands of hours,” to be exact—and shot their database in-house with releases fully signed by models.
This means you’ll be able to use the end results for your personal or commercial projects without worry of copyright hiccups.
While the machine has churned out thousands of photo-realistic images, the team disclaims that the AI hasn’t been perfected. “When you see a face that is a bit ‘off,’ just give it some slack,” reminds Zhabinskiy.
Thus far, the tool has been able to generate faces that capture consistent lighting and sizing, as well as a comprehensive variety of ethnicities, ages, face shapes, angles and facial expressions. Pretty impressive.
Zhabinskiy says you can utilize ‘Generated Photos’ however you wish, be it for “your next mockup, presentation or website,” though he asks that you attribute ‘https://generated.photos’ so more people can access the collection.
