Producing a Great Brand
Names are important because you want people to see the trailer for your movie and think, “Oh, it is made by So&So Productions, it must be a good movie!” In other words, picking production company names that people can easily remember and associate with your films is a must.
Think big, make it big, and you have more of a chance of making it big. Get it?
The film industry is quite different from other industries in that your first impression on your “customers” are movie trailers and the movies themselves.
Have you ever seen a movie and thought it was decent, but never heard of the production company before? If so, can you recall the company? If not, they either didn’t make that great of an impression, of the name was just not catchy. Either case can be lethal to your career as a producer, so read on!
Consider these tips when brainstorming production company names:
Make sense: Your production company name should correspond with the types of movies you produce. Having a company name that sounds like it should be producing horror films, but produces children’s movies wouldn’t make much sense and might not be easily remembered.
Sound professional: Make sure the name sounds professional and like something that will be successful.
Unique: Make sure your name is nothing like any other companies out there, especially the ones that have already hit the success point.
Use your industry: When making movies, you will likely end up working with other companies to create the film so you will want it to be clear in the credits that you’re the one in charge! Add words such as films, productions, or studios in the name.
Now it’s time to get down to business. Start out by making a list of potential production company names, and write names until you cannot possibly think of anymore.

Things to Consider
Have a nice long list? Great! Now it’s time to really start getting into the action by trimming it down to the names that really have potential. To do this, go back down through your list while keeping the following questions in mind:
Is there a web domain available that matches the name? Check Whois.
How about social networking sites; is the name available on various websites such as facebook and twitter?
Does the name infringe on any copyrights? Check with U.S. Copyright Office.
Is it catchy?
Is it easy for anyone to spell and pronounce?
Do you have any logo ideas?
Although these questions will not narrow down your list to one, it should help. If you end up not being able to make a decision, ask the people who are near and dear to you for some help or ideas. They would be happy to help you out with such a big decision! Invite a few people out for some drinks and bring it up; who knows, it might be something worth recording!
